The Georgia American College of Nurse Midwives is happy to announce results from our recent GA Midwife of the Year contest. Nominations were received in January, and a panel of midwives around GA voted in February to decide this honor. We are thrilled to name Judy Fielder, CNM of Northside Women’s Specialists at the 2015 GA Midwife of the Year. Judy started her career as a women’s health nurse practitioner and then received her Midwifery degree from Emory University. She has been caring for women at Northside Women’s Specialists in Atlanta since 1986 where she was one of the two pioneers of the midwifery service. She has advocated for women and their babies both at her practice, as an ACNM regional leader, and at the state level.
During her career she has touched many families as a childbirth educator as well as breastfeeding coach. Most recently she has been instrumental coordinating “Contemporary Strategies for Optimizing Birth” a program to educate the Northside Hospital labor and delivery nurses on non-pharmacological labor support. Likewise, as an Emory University Adjunct faculty member, she has helped train and mentor dozens of new midwives.
In addition to being dedicated to caring for childbearing women and supporting better birth options, Judy is a NAMS certified menopause specialist. She continues to work full-time seeing women of all ages including mothers and daughters, providing them with phenomenal care.
Judy’s information was shared with national ACNM for inclusion in a series of upcoming articles in Quickening in honor of ACNM’s 60th anniversary which will tell the untold stories of our CNM unsung heroes. Congratulations to Judy on this honor!
