Nicole Carlson Smith, President of the GA-affiliate of ACNM and Mary Jane Lewitt, Director of the Midwifery Program at the Emory University School of Nursing spoke with legislators this week at the Women’s Health Senate Committee Meeting! Information and recommendations were presented as follows:
- Full practice authority for CNMs in GA
- Ensure that GA hospitals provide CNMs with privileges and allow them to sit on medical staffs.
- Fund education of CNMs in GA
Expand GA Preceptor Tax Incentive Programs to cover CNM preceptors
Expand existing programs providing tax credits and loan reimbursement for rural physicians to cover CNMs
- Support models of CNM/physician collaboration across the state, where by CNMs provide prenatal and labor/birth care for women of low/moderate risk and physicians provide collaboration and referral services for CNM patients and care for high-risk patients.
We are so proud of these ladies for representing midwives in our state and presenting information that will hopefully increase the access of GA citizens to midwifery services and improve the health of women in our state. Thanks Nicole and Mary Jane for your outstanding efforts!
