GEORGIA MIDWIFE OF THE DAY
Name: Vanessa Treaster
Years of practice: A little less than a year ~ 10 months
Practice name/location/website: Women’s Medical Center in Tyrone, GA (http://www.womensmedical.com)
Population served: very diverse, a little bit of everything
Why midwifery: I always knew I wanted to help people. The more I learned about the human body the more in awe I became. I was interested in nursing in high school and began dating a guy whose mother had 3 home births with a midwife and was changed by her care. That’s when I knew I wanted to be a midwife.
ACNM member? Yes I am! Why? Because I value the professional resources, networking and advocacy provided.
Words of wisdom to midwives: You make a difference. It’s the small things, and I hear about the difference from the clients we care for.
Words of wisdom to women: Listen to your body and trust your instincts. Each birth is very different but I trust that how each birth unfolds is important no matter how it ends up.
How you celebrate midwifery: By acknowledging the hard work that other midwives do and how they have helped mentor me to be the midwife I am today. Call them, love them, hug them.
