Breastfeeding is a wonderful way to care for your baby. Breast milk is the perfect food for babies, with all the right nutrients in just the right amounts. The World Health Organization (WHO) says that feeding your baby only breast milk for the first 6 months of life is the best way to keep your baby healthy. Nurse-midwives support breastfeeding for all women who are interested in this option with hands-on support during pregnancy, at birth, and postpartum. Nurse-midwives also work with Lactation Consultants, working either in a hospital or in the community, to support women as they breastfeed.
