Legislative Committee

The GA Affiliate works hard to promote midwifery throughout the state and advocate for women and families.  These efforts include our legislative initiatives and lobbying, helping midwives overcome barriers to practice, and educating consumers and providers about midwifery care.

Our Legislative Agenda

  • Create systems that enable every licensee to practice to their full scope.

  • Create a mandate that hospitals regulated by DOH must put a mechanism in place for the credentialing of NJ licensed midwife applicants for privileges.

  • Seek a mandate from the Division of Banking and Insurance (DOBI) that midwives must be reimbursed at 100% of the rate paid to their physician counterparts, both via public funding and private insurers.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee is aiding in the identification and recruitment of members to run for affiliate officer positions and participate on committees.  The Nominating Committee is responsible for managing the election process.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Committee

Diversity and Inclusion is a new initiative with the mission of encouraging diversity in midwifery education, discourse, and practice to strengthen and expand the relevance of midwifery in all of society.

Anti-Racism Sub-committee

Our antiracism work occurs with oversight from the EDI committee and includes regular social gatherings, self-directed education, and engagement with the work of addressing racism and white supremacy in our profession and places of work.  A group of white-identifying midwives works together using a shared set of intentions about goals and guidelines for interaction.

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. All midwives are welcome—please email nicolesmithcarlson@gmail.com if you are interested in joining.
